Privacy Policy

The short version

Steel & Sole does not have accounts, does not sell anything directly, and does not sell or rent personal information. We collect aggregate analytics about how the site is used, and we receive whatever you choose to send us through the contact form.

What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked. It records things like the pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and referring site. We use it in aggregate — to see which guides are useful — and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors.

We also record an event when a product link is clicked, noting which merchant and which page it came from. That is how we understand which recommendations people find useful. It does not identify you.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter, so that we can reply. The form also records the time it was loaded and applies a per-IP submission limit, purely to block automated spam. We do not add contact-form addresses to any mailing list.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, as part of operating and securing the site.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, so no passwords or profiles.
  • No payment information — we do not sell anything on this site.
  • No newsletter or marketing list. There is no signup form on this site.
  • No advertising network, no retargeting pixels, no display ad tracking.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish between sessions and returning visitors. You can block them with your browser settings or a content blocker, and the site works normally without them — nothing here is gated.

Amazon sets its own cookies once you arrive on their site, including the cookie that credits a purchase to us. That is governed by Amazon's privacy policy, not ours.

Product links pass through a redirect on our own domain (a URL beginning /go/) which adds our Amazon Associates tag before sending you to Amazon. The redirect exists so the tag lives in one place in our code; it does not collect anything beyond the analytics event described above. Full details are in the affiliate disclosure.

Third parties we rely on

  • Google Analytics — site analytics.
  • Microsoft Graph — delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
  • Our hosting provider — serves the site and keeps standard request logs.
  • Amazon — once you click through, under their own policies.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone, for any purpose.

How long we keep things

Contact-form emails are kept as long as they are useful for handling the enquiry and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' configured retention period. Server logs are retained by our host under their standard policy.

Your choices

  • Block analytics with browser settings, a content blocker, or Google's opt-out browser add-on.
  • Do not use the contact form if you would rather not share an email address — though we then have no way to reply.
  • Ask us to delete a message you sent us. Email contact@steelandsole.com and we will remove it.

Children

This site is aimed at adults buying work footwear. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update it and change the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be described in the text rather than applied silently.
